- Teulère, architect and engineer
Among the various figures associated with the Cordouan site, the engineer Joseph Teulère is less well known than Louis de Foix and the scholar Augustin Fresnel – perhaps because his bust was not installed in the lighthouse. Nevertheless, it was Teulère who oversaw the reconstruction of the lighthouse during troubled times, and his ambitious scientific, technical and architectural project embodied the spirit of the age.
